Rally Drivers recently ended their season by competing in Washington at Mt. Olympus for the 2012 Rally America National Championship. The championship titles included 2012 overall champion, rookie of the year, super production class, and two-wheel drive class champion.
Our own Scott Putnam has been a rally co-driver since 2001. His history includes training in Finland, placing 4th in the X Games in 2006 and racing alongside many famous Subaru USA Rally Teams.
This year Scott and driver Lauchlin O’Sullivan traveled to Washington to participate in the Olympus Rally. The two earned enough points to claim the 2012 American Super Production title. “This was the first event in a couple of years that there were no major mechanical issues or dramas, which was very nice,” said Putnam. “Everything was there. Brakes, turbos, headgaskets and suspension were all there and contributing to the effort. All we had to do was race.”
Starting in the Olympus Rally ensured that the team would claim at least a tie for the 2012 championship. The duo placed fourth in the overall championship and earned their first place spot in the super production class.
The weekend of September 23rd was dry in Olympia which forced rally organizers to change up the schedule. There were four stages on Saturday morning with a long afternoon break due to a high fire dangers. Five more stages took place Saturday night, with one more stage to close out the Championship on Sunday morning.
O’Sullivan and Putnam overcame many obstacles throughout the season and finished with a national championship win. We want to invite you to celebrate with us this Friday, October 12th from 6pm-8pm at Morrie’s Minnetonka Subaru. Subaru enthusiasts will gather to talk amongst each other, get driving tips from the pros, check out the championship Subaru Impreza WRX STI, and enjoy food, prizes and more!
