Mazda has long been associated with racing and the “Zoom-Zoom” mentality lives on as far as we can tell at the 2016 SEMA show. If you are unaware of what SEMA is it’s, “the premier automotive specialty products trade event in the world. It draws the industry’s brightest minds and hottest products to one place, the Las Vegas Convention Center.” We spent two days cruising around the show looking for the very best that the aftermarket world has to offer. We wanted to check out what the newest and hottest trends in automotive tuning have become, and we can say Mazda is right up there with the best. While Ford may have dominated the show with some off-road, super lifted and crazy trucks, Mazda could be seen by just looking a little lower to the ground.

Let’s take a look at what Mazda themselves brought out to the show which were the Mazda Speedster and Mazda RF Kuro MX-5 concept vehicles. If you think you’ve seen this Speedster before you’d be right because the team at Mazda Design Americas took the Speedster concept and went back to the drawing board to see how light they could make the car. The team was able to shave an additional 100-lbs off the total weight and now it only weighs in at a measly 1,980lbs! With some fully adjustable suspension, the same BFGoodrich tires that the MX-5 global cup cars are sporting and a beautiful White Ether paint, this MX-5 had to be the best in show for Mazda.

The other option to drool over was the all new concept RF Kuro MX-5. Adapting much of the same technology found on the Speedster concept and MX-5 cup cars, the RF Kuro gains adjustable suspension and Brembo dual-piston front brake calipers. The color of this car is really what made it special which was a Satin Black Metallic, which really was one of the few matte cars of this years show.

One of the other truly unique Mazda’s at the show was this RX-7. Not just any RX-7, this particular one had a turbo the likes of which many have never seen on a car so small. While this RX-7 was still in the middle of a build process we cannot wait to see the outcome. Found at the Garret Turbo booth did you really expect anything less?
