2018 Holiday Gift Guide

Getting gifts is the best, and giving them is really awesome too—but actually thinking up what to give everyone on your list? That’s the worst. Fortunately, we’re here to make that easier for you. Here are all the things we’re hoping to get, planning to give, or just thought sounded pretty neat.

The Auto Care Crate (from Man Crate)

Personally, I hate novelty things that float around in my car. I love this because it’s the perfect kit to keep my car looking its best. I also recommended the Slaughterhouse crate for the jerky lovers out there!

Sock of the Month Club

What’s better than receiving snail mail? I’d definitely have to say fun socks. And receiving fun socks in the mail from a loved one? You can’t put a price on that. It’s the perfect gift. I don’t even have to tell you they have socks themed for every interest. Cats. Pizza. Tom Petty. You name it. So here’s a list of 14 different sock-a-month subscription companies for you to peruse.

PopSocket Vent Mount

Looking at other people’s phones, it’s pretty apparent that Pop Sockets are popping up everywhere. This little device lets you snap your phone via the Pop Socket onto your car’s air vents. Using this mount makes navigating by your phone’s GPS hands-free so that you can do a better job of keeping your eyes on the road. I personally use this frequently and I haven’t had any problems yet! Both its cost and size make this a great stocking stuffer.

Genetic Testing Kit (from 23andme.com)

I was always skeptical that genetic testing kits would give me anything valuable. A few years ago I gave one to my parents as a gift and it spurred great discussion around family history which was enough to justify giving the present. I found out, after getting a kit in return the following year, the true benefit of this gift. You learn about your roots certainly, but if you wish, you can use the system’s network to connect with extended family around the globe. The system continues to inform me when someone with a genetic connection is identified and I am continuously surprised to see how your family can be connected across the globe.

SmartWool Onesie (Men/Women)

If you’ve ever owned a pair of Smartwool socks, you’ll understand why having a full bodysuit of the stuff (with a built-in hood!!) sounds like a little slice of heaven. If you haven’t, know this – I think of my life in terms of pre/post-Smartwool. It’s a game-changer, especially if you have trouble keeping your extremities warm during the winter like I do. Gift it to the freeze-baby in your life and then be prepared to remind them that they’ll need to take it off occasionally in order to wash it.

Book of the Month Subscription

Remember back in the olden days when screens didn’t rule our lives and you could read things on this strange, long-forgotten material called paper? Yeah, me neither. But turns out they still print actual physical books, and you can gift them to your friends, family, or anyone who needs a nudge to put their phone down. You can walk into any bookstore (they also exist) and pick out the first book you see that doesn’t have a celebrity pretending cook on it, or you can purchase a subscription to Book of the Month. They pick five books each month for you to judge by the cover (and description) before you settle on which one to read (or add to your ever-growing stack of unread books).

Global Chef’s Knife

I’ve owned several professional kitchen knives over the years but Global still holds the top spot. I own a Global chef’s knife and it makes all the world of difference whether you chopping vegetables or thinly slicing a cut of meat. You can’t go wrong with a few pro knives for your next culinary adventure and this chef’s knife is a must-have.

Gear Ties Rubber Twist Ties

Sometimes something so simple can make a life a little bit easier. That’s how I feel about Gear Tie rubber twist ties. As the name suggests, they’re essentially jumbo reusable twist ties that can be used to wrap around just about anything around the house, garage or garden shed with a tendency to unroll or unravel. They’re great for taming extension cords, garden hoses and small electronic wires around the house.

Teva Ember Moc (Men/Women)

You know what’s not fun about the winter? Being cold. It’s one thing to be cold outside where you kind of expect to be cold, but it’s no fun being cold inside. That’s why I’m a big fan of slippers. Slippers are awesome for keeping your feet warm, especially if you don’t have a lot of carpet or rugs in your house. Then I saw these Teva slippers, and although I probably wouldn’t wear them out of the house, it’s nice to know that I could. They look super warm with their puffy insulation and the rubber sole should hold up to years of wear and tear.

Morrie’s Heritage Car Connection Gift Card

Giving the gift of a classic car, because obviously, it’s the best gift you can give. When spring rolls around and you’re ready to escape the house and do something fun, you’ll remember you have an awesome classic car rental to enjoy. Whether it’s a classic Mustang or a Maserati convertible, the enjoyment will be better than that tie you got dad last year, or that salt candle mom never uses! The perfect gift for that perfect someone.
