It seem like a no-brainer, but the key to any successful endeavor is being prepared. When going out in the winter you should always be prepared for cold, for snow and for ice. If you don’t have a winter car kit assembled you should definitely put one together. This video outlines what should be included in your winter car kit.
Ask anyone and they’ll tell you that I’m a die-hard car guy. Motor oil pump through my veins and it’s a common occurrence for me to get goose bumps just from a car’s exhaust rumble. Needless to say I’m a bit discerning when it comes to cars and won’t settle for just any car. My daily driver has to be fun and evoke some emotion. At the same time it has to be practical, particularly since I haul my two kids (two years and four years old respectively) around all the time and of course because we live in Minnesota.
If I had to pick one car from the portfolio of Morrie’s brands that fit my persnickety car preferences I’d most definitely land on a Subaru STI. So that’s exactly what I did. And to kick off my caretaking of my new ride I loaded the family up for a good old-fashioned road trip to the lake. You’ll notice there was at least one non-lake diversion, though.
This past Saturday WCCO-TV featured Morrie’s Teen Driving School on the Saturday Morning news show. As part of the segment anchors Mike Augstyniak and Rachel Slovak hopped behind the wheel to experience several of the school exercises themselves. There are two Morrie’s Teen Driving School remaining this year on October 22nd and November 12th.

Today, the Company has grown to become one of the largest automotive retail groups in the Twin Cities. The Company continues that philosophy today, helping customers have fun purchasing vehicles and focusing on service in a customer-friendly environment.
Morrie’s will continue to be led by CEO Karl Schmidt, who commented, “FPH is the perfect partner for our business. Morrie’s has partnered with the Minnesota Zoo to help restore Minnesota’s Prairie Wildlife by providing a Mazda CX-5 vehicle. Minnesota Zoo conservationists use it in the field across Minnesota and beyond researching prairie butterflies, moose and more recently bison. Below you’ll find an update from Minnesota Zoo conservationist Erik Runquist.
The Minnesota Zoo works every day to save wildlife. Our programs in Minnesota and around the world depend on partnerships. We have benefited from a great Mazda CX-5 field research vehicle through a generously donated lease from Morrie’s Automotive Group. In the past several months, we’ve taken the field vehicle across Minnesota and beyond to help save prairie butterflies and restore bison. Here are our Top Five spots from this summer!
1) The Minnesota Zoo
Who wouldn’t want to be at the Minnesota Zoo? At the Zoo, we expanded the world’s only breeding program for the US Threatened Dakota skipper, raising more than 150 from egg to adulthood, and produced many hundreds more eggs! The CX-5 was a true work horse, hauling around hundreds of food plants for the butterflies and other supplies!
2) Northeast South Dakota
Northeast South Dakota may have the world’s last best populations of Dakota skippers. We found most populations to be in good shape! Working under federal and state permits, we collected more eggs from a limited number of females and brought the eggs back to the Zoo.
3) Northwest Minnesota
With possibly the last Dakota skipper populations in our state, northwest Minnesota is very important to our work. With the CX-5, we found healthy numbers at the known site, and also searched new sites for previously unknown populations.
4) Western North Dakota
In mid-June, we took the CX-5 from the Zoo on its longest road trip ever: to western North Dakota! We surveyed prairie butterflies and looked for the rare Garita skipperling. While the skipperling remained elusive, we did find some spectacular prairies and great wildlife on the edge of the Badlands.
5) Minneopa State Park
Speaking of bison, did you know that the Minnesota Zoo and DNR proudly established a new herd of genetically rare bison at Minneopa State Park near Mankato in September? Zoo staff used the eye-catching CX-5 to help usher in a new era of Minnesota prairie wildlife conservation at Minneopa!
We are doing a lot thanks to all our great funders and partners. With the awesome Mazda CX-5 field vehicle from Morrie’s Auto Group, we can it do so much better! Thank you Morrie’s!
This past Saturday we held our second Morrie’s Teen Driving School of the year. Despite some light rain in the morning things clear up just in time for the teens to hit the skills course and participate in the numerous activities that help them become safer drivers.
The teens started out the morning practicing their braking, emergency lane changing and fundamental handling skills.
After lunch we tied some of the skills together via a forward and backward slalom course, decreasing radius exercise, loss of traction course and few other exercises. At day’s end all of the teens agreed that their skills and confidence had increased dramatically. Both parents and teens left the event knowing that the roads will now be a bit safer.
We have four more Morrie’s Teen Driving Schools scheduled for this year, including one on August 15th, September 26, October 10 and November 13th. For more information and to register visit www.morries.com/teenschool.
This morning Kare 11 news ran a feature story on Morrie’s Teen Driving School providing viewers a glimpse at what the school has to offer. For the story reporter Alicia Lewis got behind the wheel to experience four of the exercises taught in the full day school.
Founded last spring, the school goes beyond traditional driver’s ed program by teaching young drivers life saving skills that they simply don’t learn through conventional programs. A series of exercises are taught throughout the day on a closed course that enables young drivers to experience situations they’d otherwise experience in the real world. In doing so the course teach attendees new skills, increases driver confidence and ultimately creates muscle memory that will improve their safety in real world driving conditions.
Thus far five teen driving schools have been scheduled for the 2015 season with the first kicking off on April 25th.

This Saturday, December 20th, Pause 4 Paws will be located at our Minnetonka Subaru location to help consumers get involved with their fundraising program. They’ll also be bringing along a group of their furry pals to help pass the time.
We all want to spend more time in our garage right? I do, but no matter how much you try to keep bare concrete clean it never really seems to work and frankly it just doesn’t look good. There are a couple of common ways to spruce up your garage floor: epoxy coating or a floating floor tile. In the hunt to find something to dress up our ~4300 sq. ft. of a warehouse space, I took some time to research these 2 choices. I know 4300 sq. ft. is bigger than a typical garage, but the tips for deciding on what works best is the same for a 1 car garage all the way up to a warehouse with the amount of space we have. More >
This past opportunity I traveled to Thunderhill Raceway in Northern California to participate in the NASA 25 Hours of Thunderhill. To the unfamiliar the 25 hours of Thunderhill is America’s longest endurance sports car race and its become an end of the year tradition for many racers. The race regularly attracts racers from across the country and beyond. This years event had 55 vehicles entered ranging from Mazda Miata’s to factory supported cars like the Acura ILX to sports races like the Radical SR3.
I was invited to race with Mazda who brought a trio of diesel powered Mazda6s that were purposely built just for this race. Since the Mazda6 is not available with a diesel in the United States, Mazda started with three Russian Spec cars and built them up from there. Two of the cars were driven by Mazda dealers with the third driven by a foursome from Mazda North America.
