Thanks to the team over at Motor Authority, we’ve got our first look at Maserati’s new Levante model due to hit production next year and appear in showrooms by 2016. The name Levante comes from Via Emilia Levante in Bologna, Italy, where the Maserati brothers more than a hundred years ago built that company that stills in operation today.
Sources confirm that the vehicle will be sticking to it’s own platform instead of the Jeep Grand Cherokee running gear that was previously reported. The new platform will be a modified version of the real-wheel-underpinning that are present in the Quattroporte and Ghibli. Of course, the vehicle will include the Maserati Q4 all-wheel-drive system as well. The Levante will be similar in length to the midsize Ghibli but with a wider track and will also sit higher due to the fact that it is an SUV.
Maserati looks to target the high-end luxury market like the Porsche Cayenne instead of the typical off-road market dominated by Jeep and Land Rover. Strongest models will be able to hit 60 mph from rest in a little over 5.0 seconds. The engines will be the same turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6 and 3.8-liter V-8 gasoline;s found in the Ghibli and Quattroporte models.
Production of the Levante will take place at the Mirafiori plant located in Turin, Italy, which is owned by Maserati’s parent company Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) and has the capacity to build up to 300,000 vehicles per year.

“Put your preconceived notions to the test” was the theme of the evening at Morrie’s 394 Hyundai last night as we put the Hyundai Equus and Genesis on display. People that had never possibly considered Hyundai as a premium luxury sedan came out to the dealership last night to drive the Equus and Genesis. Many people have the been so set in their German luxury sedans that they don’t want to look outside the box. The Hyundai premium models are worth jumping out of that box head first and with pricing that won’t devastate your wallet it just sweetens the pot that much more. The new Genesis is here and it’s not backing down from the competition.
If you haven’t had the chance to drive the all new Genesis it is certainly worth your time to drive down to Morrie’s 394 Hyundai and take one for a spin. Now offered for the first time in an AWD drive format (HTRAC) Hyundai really wants to bring the Genesis to a new market level. The interior is beautifully laid out featuring Ivory seat options with black piping inside the Casablanca white or many other interior and exterior options. The redesigned front grille on the Genesis gives it an aggressive and demanding feel to the front end of the vehicle. People recognize when you put that 5.0L 420 hp V8 to the ground you’ll be meaning business.
Make sure your next premium luxury sedan shopping experience is at Morrie’s 394 Hyundai with the all new 2015 Genesis and 2014 Equus and have your notions changed forever.
After spending some time in the 2014 Mazda3, I have to say that I’m impressed. I drove the 5-Door Hatchback fitted with the Grand Touring Package. I’m a busy guy and hauling gear is the story of my life. Being a musician and a videographer I have guitars, amps, pedal bags, cameras, tripods, etc. with me at all times and making the weekly trek to band practice or a video shoot can be a cumbersome task. Not with the Mazda3. It’s one of the most versatile vehicles I’ve been in to date. The 5-Door Hatch has tons of room. My weekly drudge of hauling gear went from being a chore to being fun as soon as the back seats folded down and provided a huge landscape to play gear “Tetris” with.
Aesthetically speaking, the Mazda3 looks like a sports car should. Sleek definition lines and a lower profile make anything else in class look lack luster. Just looking at the exterior makes you want to drive it. And speaking of the ride and drive, the 3 is a blast to drive. The s-Touring has a 2.5 Liter 4-Cylinder with acceleration that pushes you into the seat. Every ounce of the 184 Horsepower under the hood is utilized and sounds more like a heavy hitting V-6 than a 4-Cylinder. I have to admit I was skeptical of the fuel economy ratings, 30 City and 41 Highway, but after a week in the car I was amazed. Between stop and go traffic to and from work and some highway driving to the recording studio, I averaged 38 MPG and I’m not light on the pedal.
The interior is just as stylish as the exterior yet comfortable and sporty. The infotainment system, gauge cluster, and interior amenities are simple and look great. Mazda has mastered the less is more approach with interior design and it really shines in the 3. That’s not to say there isn’t a load of technology and features especially with the fully loaded Grand Touring Package, it just so easy to use that it almost seems natural. There’s also a HUD (Heads Up Display) that pops up when you start the vehicle and it’s positioned right above your steering wheel. It shows your MPH as well as cruise control speed and adaptive cruise control distance. It’s pretty cool and a way better solution that projecting it onto the windshield. I don’t like to be reliant on blind spot monitoring or adaptive cruise control but the systems in the Mazda3 are fluent. I found myself appreciating them by the end of the week and didn’t find them to be an annoyance as some systems can be in other vehicles. Did I mention the seats? The Grand Touring Package had comfortable leather seats that really hug you. The interior was covered in soft touch leather and materials and looks as nice as it feels.
With plenty of packaging options, astounding fuel economy, and a 5-Door Hatchback or 4-Door Sedan, the Mazda3 is definitely a car for anyone looking for a sporty and versatile ride. Driver enthusiasts will find plenty to appreciate about this hot hatch as well.
I was given the privilege of driving a brand new 2014 Ford Focus Titanium edition for a few days this past week and it was certainly something anyone would enjoy. Before you even get into the car you can forget about fumbling for your keys to unlock the door. The touch sensitive entry system and push button start are two things that really make life easy once you have them. The leather seats in the car are spot on for road trips or just cruising around the city. They make you feel relaxed, at ease and comfortable and with the heated leather they can help make those Minnesota winters more tolerable.
Once you start driving the car you notice that it’s quiet, like really quiet inside. Minnesota is known for having some terrible pothole filled roads and being in the thick of pothole season I had no problem with potentially jarring my teeth loose cruising around. My phone connected up to the MyFord Touch and the Sync System plus the Sony stereo system immediately starting playing Pandora on my favorite station. I was hesitant that the voice activation wouldn’t be able to recognize my voice because I’ll be the first to admit I mumble, bad. Sync really didn’t have any issues at all which was nice for changing the climate, radio stations or making calls by name.
The overall best part had to be the fuel economy. The 2 liter 4 cylinder with the ecoboost was getting insanely good fuel economy. I drove around for about an hour and the distance to empty range went from 167 miles left to 165 left. I know that can be taken with a bit of hesitation but I believe with just city driving I was somewhere in the 30-32 mpg range. I was certainly not use to getting such good mileage and that was a very welcomed change.
I would have to say that if I was in the market for a compact sedan I would head over to Morrie’s Minnetonka or Buffalo Ford and at the bare minimum take one for a spin. Not to mention the fact that I wouldn’t be paying for car washes for the rest of my car ownership isn’t such a bad deal either.
In honor of earth day today, we thought we would take a look at some of the environmentally friendly models that we carry here at Morrie’s. If you’re looking for a hybrid or electric vehicle option, we’ve got something for you.
1. Mazda doesn’t currently offer any electric or hybrid vehicles but what they do offer is their SKYACTIV system which is central to their long term effort to improve fuel-efficiency as well as reduce emissions. Mazda created SKYACTIV technology by utilizing methods such as idle-stop, regenerative braking systems as well as hybrid technology to further increase fuel efficiency. The 2012 Mazda3 was the first vehicle in the Mazda lineup to receive the new SKYACTIV technologies, which is now available on a variety of different vehicles here on our showfloor.

We finally got the opportunity to get up close and personal with some of the hottest new vehicles from all over the world. Make sure to check out our photo album below and our YouTube playlist with tons of model overview videos!
Our first stop this morning was the Subaru press conference where they unveiled the highly anticipated 2015 Subaru WRX STi. This Rally bred sports sedan features a 2.5 Liter Boxer Four cylinder, producing 300 horsepower and 290 lbs/ft. of torque. Subaru promises more speed, better handling, tighter suspension and a high-performance braking system. We know our Subaru fans are just as excited as we are about this one, but sit tight, we don’t expect to see one on show floors until next year!
Following the Subaru press conference, we hightailed it over to Cadillac where they were unveiling the 2015 Cadillac ATS Coupe! The ATS coupe is the brand’s first compact two-door coupe yet and it did not disappoint. As you would expect, the ATS coupe shares the same wheelbase and platform as the ATS sedan, but with a widened track in the front and rear and an aluminum construction making it the lightest car in its segment. You could feel the excitement in the crowd as Cadillac entertained us with a youthful and upbeat reveal for this hot new coupe. Exterior changes to the ATS coupe include a wider, more aggressive looking grille, and a brand new crest! The new Cadillac crest has only been worn on one other non-production model, the El miraj concept before being unveiled on the ATS coupe today. Cadillac explained the new crest as representing the the purity of Cadillac and the new lower, leaner, meaner design. The ATS coupe is powered by an increased 2.0 liter turbocharged four or a 3.6 liter V6, available in rear wheel or all-wheel drive, as well as a 6-speed manual option. Keep your eye out for the ATS Coupe on Morrie’s Cadillac show floors!
Although previously revealed during an online debut, the 2015 Cadillac Escalade still created a lot of buzz at this year’s auto show in Detroit. This was the first time we were able to get an up close look at the vehicle so make sure to check out our photos in the album below.
