Rally America National Championship Series

February 23, 2013 saw the start to the second race of the Rally America National Championship Series in Salem, MO at 100 Acre Woods. This Rally is known to be one of the most scenic races in the series. The race got its name from the storybook home of Winnie the Pooh. The event takes place in the foothills of the Ozark Mountain range and is home to some of the tightest and fastest roads in the series. Every twist and turn puts the drivers ability to the test, including Lauchlin O’Sullivan and our own Scott Putnam from CPD racing.
They came into the event with a freshly built 2008 Subaru WRX STI backed by Lucas Oil, Wolf LED and Morrie’s Subaru. Even with the limited time in the new WRX STI rally car O’Sullivan and Putnam were able to place 1st in the Super Production class and 3rd overall.

Phase 3: The Roll Cage and Wrap
With spring closing in, the Mazda 2 is making speedy progress to its completion. With all the performance modifications done and the interior completely removed we are ready to move onto phase three, the wrap and cage.
Designing and installing a roll cage is not a very simple task. To save us time and one massive headache we left it to the experts at S-Box Engineering to design the Mazda 2′s roll cage.
S-Box Engineering’s parent company (Miata Cage) has been building roll cages for spec Miata’s for over 10 years. With their expertise and knowledge of roll cages and Mazda’s it made for a smooth process with the ordering and installation. After spending a few days at AutoEdge Racing in Mahtomedi for installation and assembly of the cage, it was ready for paint. Our own Michael Ashby spent some time after hours sprucing it up.

It seems like it was just yesterday that I bought my ’94 Miata. I thoroughly enjoyed driving the little Miata, driving it all over the Midwest and wringing out everything the chassis and engine had whenever I could. As much as I loved the car, it was taken away from me in September when a woman driving a 2012 VW Jetta ran a stop sign and t-boned my car right in the driver’s side door.
Luckily, I wasn’t injured aside from a few cuts and bruises but the car was a total loss. After sorting things out with insurance, I decided that this time around I’d get something a little more practical and comfortable to use as a daily driver and to carry around all of my camera gear. With the money I got from insurance, I had enough to cover about half the cost of something used that might fit what I was looking for, or I could use the money as a down payment on something newer. I decided that if I was going to be taking on debt to own a better daily driver, I should try to get something that fit as many of my needs as possible.
Billboard Contest Winner Talks With Morrie’s About Her Billboard

We are pleased to announce that Caitlin T. of Minnetonka has won our inaugural billboard contest. Her billboard submission, “Who Says You Can’t Buy Love,” embodies the spirit of past billboard campaigns and is a great fit with our Buy Happy branding. In the interview below Caitlin talks about her experience shopping at Morrie’s, the thought process behind her billboard submission and her plans for the $1,000 prize.

Carter’s 2012 COPO Camaro

The original 1969 COPO Camaro was Chevy’s answer to the ban on engine’s over 400 cid in a midsize car. The Central Office Production Order (COPO) was Chevy’s special-order system used by dealers to build high performance models. Chevrolet equipped factory Camaro’s with L72 427 cid V-8’S. These original ZL-1 COPO’s were available in either an automatic or 4-speed manual option. In 1969 Chevrolet sold 171 COPO Camaro’s with four speed transmissions and 30 with automatic transmissions totaling 201 sold. Today an original 1969 COPO Camaro brings big money on the collector market, with one recently selling for $451,000 at the 2012 Barret-Jackson auction.
2012 Rally America National Championship

Rally Drivers recently ended their season by competing in Washington at Mt. Olympus for the 2012 Rally America National Championship. The championship titles included 2012 overall champion, rookie of the year, super production class, and two-wheel drive class champion.
Our own Scott Putnam has been a rally co-driver since 2001. His history includes training in Finland, placing 4th in the X Games in 2006 and racing alongside many famous Subaru USA Rally Teams. More >
MN Cars & Coffee July Photo Contest

For this months MN Cars and Coffee prize we decided to do something a little different. Make sure to bring your camera this Saturday, July 7th to the AutoMotorPlex in Chanhassen.
Attendee’s of July Cars and Coffee will be given the chance to submit their photos from the event for a chance to win a GOPRO HD HERO2 Motorsport Edition video camera.
The contest will begin on July 7th 2012 and will run until July 21st 2012 at 12:00am CT. Each user that signs up for the contest will be able to submit a photo that they took at the event. The photo has to be from this month’s Cars and Coffee event and each user will only be able to submit one photo. Voting will take place during the time frame stated above and Facebook users will be able to vote on their favorite photo, so be sure to share your submission with your friends!
After the submission deadline The Morrie’s Group will select the three images with the most votes. A panel of judges from our group will then choose one of those three photos and declare a winner.

June Cars & Coffee Prize Winners!

We had a great time at Car’s and Coffee this past weekend. Those who stopped by the Morrie’s booth were given the opportunity to sign up and enter to win one of two Panasonic Lumix digital camera’s valued at $150.00 each. By the time we announced the winner’s at 10:30 We had over 70 entrants for the contest.
Our lucky winner’s this month were Sara S. and Nikki W. who were nice enough to let us snap photo’s of them with their new camera’s!
We will continue to have great prize giveaways at the AutoMotorPlex during each C&C event the first Saturday of every month through October.
