After spending road tripping out to Chicago for the 2017 Chicago Auto Show in a brand new Maserati Ghibli, we couldn’t help but wonder what other cars on the show floor would make great road trip vehicles. We loved the Ghibli for its ability to gobble up long stretches of highway and tight, twisty roads with ease, but depending on your situation, there might be even better options out there. So we figured we’d break down our coverage of the show into a list of our best road trip vehicles based on different possible adventures or goals.
With so much eye candy at the 2017 Chicago Auto Show, we couldn’t help but take a peek at all the cool stuff on display from some of the other brands we don’t currently sell at Morrie’s. There’s such a wide range of cars, trucks, SUVs, and just about every other vehicle segment you can imagine on display in the massive McCormick Place convention center that it’s an all-day adventure to see it all. But we did just that, and after a couple of days at the show, we picked up on a few interesting trends:
It’s been awhile since we’ve been to the Chicago Auto Show, but seeing as how it’s the biggest show in our (sort of) backyard, we figured we’d make a road trip out of it and go check out the Windy City for a couple days. Thanks to our friends at Morrie’s Luxury Auto, we had a gassed up 2017 Maserati Ghibli to get us across Wisconsin and to McCormick Place, home of the 2017 Chicago Auto Show. More >
Super Bowl 51 – Sunday, Feb. 5th
We’ve been told that the ‘Super Bowl’ is this weekend, which is apparently some sort of gladiatorial combat involving a leather ball, birds of prey from Georgia, and several East Coast patriots. While we’re not sure what to make of that, it has also come to our attention that there will be some fantastic commercials during breaks on the ‘iron grid’, in addition to a halftime performance by the one and only Lady Gaga. With that being said, if football isn’t your cup of tea we have a few other events on our radar that might work:
Having a clean car has many advantages – and that’s why here at Morrie’s, we offer lifetime unlimited car washes as one of our Buy Happy Promises. There are many suggestions on how, when, and why you should wash your car…and there isn’t really a correct answer, but rather, a few things to consider:
The Great Northern – January 27th – Feb. 5th
The Great Northern is a grouping of events between Minneapolis and St. Paul to showcase the very best of the Twin Cities during the wintery months. “We believe in being out in it. The cold. The ice. The snow. The flurries and drifts and whiteouts and whatnot — all of it. We believe in layering up. Bundling up. Wearing big coats, big boots and even bigger hats.” We believe in ice skates, snow skis and snowshoes. We believe in seeing our breath, subzero temps and icicles as big as hockey sticks.”
So… We skipped the North American International Auto Show in Detroit this year. It’s a fun show but it turns Detroit into a complete circus. Hotels are few and far between, flights are expensive, and the weather sucks. So we just said “screw it” and decided to road trip out to Chicago next month for the next big auto show on the calendar. Personally, I’m a little bummed we didn’t go this year. There are a lot of exciting cars that have been unveiled this week that we weren’t there to see, but hey, hindsight is 20/20, right?
So instead of showing you our coverage of the show, we’re going to be borrowing stories from all of our favorite automotive news sites and giving you our thoughts on the coolest unveilings in Motor City this year.
It’s hard to believe that the Holiday Season is already here and Morrie’s Chippewa Valley Mazda is committed to bringing joy to the local Chippewa Valley and Eau Claire Community. For 5 years Bill Bertrand, General Manager, at Morrie’s Chippewa Valley Mazda has given away over a dozen cars to individuals and families during the 60 Days Of Giving. The first giveaway for the season took place last week at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire (UWEC) were Bill and his team gave a Mazda3 and a $500 gift card for gas to Alex Mitchell, a student at the university. Family and friends alike showed up in support and several news stations were present to share the amazing story on local channels.
Any Minnesotan worth their salt knows that Murphy’s Law is in full effect during the winter months: anything that can go wrong, will go wrong. Frequently, this manifests itself in the form of automotive issues, which can range from something as simple as your car not starting for your evening commute, all the way to hitting a patch of black ice and sliding into the ditch during your evening commute. Both of these things will probably make you late for dinner (Although you have a better chance of avoiding the latter if your vehicle is outfitted with winter tires. Read more on that here).
A surgeon’s scalpel is the perfect tool for performing surgeries but you wouldn’t use it for cutting down a tree or cutting the crust off of your sandwich. Similarly, you wouldn’t use a chainsaw in the operating room. You need the right tools for the job, just like you need the right kind of tires for the season.
