Have you ever wondered what would happen is cars were allowed to compete at the Olympics instead of just athletes? No? Just us?
Well humor us anyway and keep reading to see which vehicles we’d pick to be apart of #TeamMorries in the 2016 Automotive Olympic games!
Name: Nissan GTR Nismo
Sport: 100M Sprint
Hometown: Kaminokawa, Tochigi, Japan
- Accelerated from 0-60 MPH in 2.9 seconds during Car and Driver testing
- 1/4-Mile in 11.2 seconds
- Held Nurburgring Production Car lap record at 7:08.679
The Nissan GTR Nismo has been on a strict diet, and focusing as much on raw speed as agility. The GTR Nismo is a true rising star in the world of Track and Field and should be a strong contender for multiple gold medals in the 2016 Automotive Olympics.
Victoria Classic Car Night – Wednesday, August 3rd
This Wednesday night hundreds of classic cars will descend on downtown Victoria, Minnesota, for Victoria Classic Car Night. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – this show is a great reason to get out during the middle of the week and see an eclectic mix of cars that you might not see at your typical show. It’s looking like it will be a hot one weather wise, so I recommend bringing a convertible.
Flying Legends of Victory Tour – July 26th through July 31st
Having spent my fair share of time breaking (I really have a knack for it) and subsequently repairing vintage vehicles, I’m always a bit baffled at how airplanes exist. Particularly vintage airplanes. With this in mind, it is really quite remarkable to get up close to legendary warplanes and see their inner mechanical workings. The Flying Legends of Victory Tour provides such an opportunity and if you’re brave enough to take to the skies in a vintage plane they’ll even take you for a ride in a B-17 Flying Fortress.
We love our sales people at Morrie’s. They’re the reason we can say in business and thrive. Every year, as a group, we like to thank our sales people with a bit party that includes games, food trucks, Heritage car test drives, and prizes to let them know we appreciate their hard work. This year, as a special treat, the top-reviewed sales person from each store got to pick a manager or corporate employee of their choice to hit with a pie in the face! So thanks, sales staff of Morrie’s Auto Group! You’re all the best in the business!
Minneapolis Aquatennial – July 20th through July 23rd
This week the Aquatennial descends on Minneapolis to celebrate the city’s lakes, rivers and streams via 70 plus scheduled activities. I could list them all off here, but it would most definitely mirror that scene in Forrest Gump where Bubba rattles off all the different shrimp dishes. Just take my word for it that there is a multitude of fun events including the Torchlight Parade, waterskiing shows, sand castle contests, fireworks and more.
Victoria Car Show – Wednesday, July 6th
Victoria Classic Car Night is quite possibly the best classic car gathering that very few people know about. This event occurs semi-monthly during the summer months and regularly draws hundreds of cars. The event returns tonight at 5pm and runs until 8pm. Read Josh’s recap from a past visit to get a glimpse of what Victoria Classic Car Night has to offer.
The July MN C&C event is usually hit or miss in terms of attendance depending on when the 4th of July falls during the week. Last year was pretty quiet with lots of people heading to their cabins or being preoccupied with other holiday festivities. This year however, MN C&C had a MASSIVE turnout with over 1,000 cars and roughly 7,000 spectators that showed up! It was simply amazing to see so many cars and people all within the confines of the Auto MotorPlex in Chanhassen. FOX9 news even came out to broadcast live from the show and did a segment with our very own Ben Robertaccio.
We’d like to thank everyone for coming out to MN C&C and making it such a great event this month and we hope you enjoy your 4th of July weekend safely!

Austrian Grand Prix Viewing Party – Sunday, July 3rd
We were never big fans of the Sound Music, but the sound of Formula 1 cars ripping through the Austrian Alps is music to our ears. This weekend the hills are indeed alive with the sounds of music 1.6 liter V6 turbos spinning at 15k rpms. Join us this Sunday at Morrie’s Luxury Auto as we watch the race live. Doors open at 6:30am for the 7am race start.

Wayzata Art Experience – Saturday June 25th and Sunday June 26th
Head down to Wayzata this weekend for a two-day celebration of art, music, food, and fun for all ages all on the beautiful shores of Lake Minnetonka. I personally am looking forward to the inaugural classic and antique boat show. I’ve always been a fan of boats, particularly because boat ownership might just be the one thing more expensive than a classic car hobby. You know the expression — bring out another thousand (B.O.A.T.).
Northern Thunder Motorcycle Rally – Sunday, June 26
Get your motor running for a good cause this weekend at the Northern Thunder Motorcycle Rally. If you or your children don’t wear a bike helmet what’s stopping you? I can tell you that after taking a colossal spill and knocking out my front teeth years ago that a bike helmet is a good idea. This weekend it can’t be easier to get one – and for free at that.
