While Day 1 at the 2016 New York International Auto Show was packed to the gills with all sorts of major reveals, there were only a handful by comparison on Day 2. This left us with more time to wander the showfloor and see anything we missed in the chaos on Day 1 while also making sure to see what had just been revealed. For instance, we couldn’t keep ourselves away from the rows of supercars where we saw a Bugatti, a Spyker, and two brand new Koenigseggs on the stand. The same was true for the Porsche stand which drew us in with the rare and beautiful 911R and the new 718 Boxster S. We also got to spend a little more time with the Maserati Levante, where we checked out the gorgeous Zegna-trimmed interior (it’s pretty dang nice!)
We also circled back to Genesis – Hyundai’s new luxury brand – to check out their New York Concept vehicle that we ought to see hit the compact luxury sedan segment in the next couple of years. Although this was very much a style exercise for the show, Genesis already had a list of drivetrain specs as well as a beautifully designed interior, although it’s unlikely many of the interior details (like the 21-in curved 4K display from LG on top of the dash) will make it to production.
Last week, Morrie’s Automotive Group sent a team of brave souls – Adam, Gabe, and Alex – to the heart of Manhattan for the 2015 New York International Auto Show press days. Together, we were excited to see all of the latest and greatest cars, eat some pizza, and explore a little slice of the Big Apple. After arriving at JFK airport on Tuesday night, we took a cab to our hotel and quickly ventured out in search of food. While the street food vendor on the corner next to the hotel was tempting, we took the hotel doorman’s recommendation and grabbed some pizza down the street. After a few slices of pie, we quickly hashed out a plan for the following day and got some rest.
The first day of any of the big auto shows around the country is usually the most hectic, with a full day of press conferences, big reveals, and insane crowds. After getting checked in at Javits Center, we hatched a plan that allowed us to skip most of the crowds by avoiding the big reveals altogether and just check out all of the vehicles we could get access to. This included all of the latest and greatest at Ford such as the all-new Focus RS, Raptor, Ford GT, and GT350R Mustang. While we saw most of Ford’s new performance range back in January in Detroit, we were excited to see the Focus RS in production form for the first time in the US. The powerful little hatchback really stood out in its bright blue color. Hyundai and Mazda were nearby so we checked out the Sonata Hybrid and Miata as well. Perusing the rest of the show floor, we also made sure to stop by Cadillac to see the new CT6 as well as Lincoln to check out the sleek new Continental Concept. Maserati also had a few of their Centennial Edition GranTurismos on display that caught our eyes with the updated interior options as well as redesigned wheels. We also made sure to check out the Aston Martin Vulcan, which is simply insane in person. It’s shockingly long, low, and sleek. By the end of the day, we had taken over 800 photos and recorded 16 videos.
Day 2 of the 2015 New York auto show was a little slower, but no less exciting. Of the few big reveals we’d missed out on the day before, we had no problems getting up close to cars like the new McLaren 570S, Hyundai Tucson, and Subaru VT15x RallyCross car. We also made sure to stop by Nissan to check out the new Maxima later that day. A few other highlights of Day 2 included seeing the new Porsche Boxster Spyder, a handful of BMW race cars, pretty much everything on display at Alfa Romeo, and getting up close in personal with the incredibly rare and valuable McLaren F1 XP GT longtail and P1 GTR race car, one of just three ever built. We also managed to film another 10 videos before the day came to an end which made this trip one of our most successful auto shows to date!

The all-new 2014 Cadillac ELR luxury coupe was unveiled in production form at the 2013 North American International Auto Show. We were excited to see it also make an appearance at this year’s New York International Auto Show last month. The ELR combines style, luxury and energy efficient technologies to bring you one truly magnificent automobile. The styling of this up and coming plug-in hybrid is very similar to the Cadillac Converj concept that we saw at the 2009 North American Auto Show in Detroit.
Under the hood the vehicle is equipped with an electric motor and a small 4-cylinder turbocharged engine that serves as the backup generator for the system. The electric motor has a range of 35 miles then the engine kicks in for a maximum combined range of about 300 miles. The ELR takes about 12 hours to recharge on a standard 120-volt outlet and about 4 ½ hours using a 240-volt outlet. The turn signal indicators located on the side view mirrors also act as charge indicators when the vehicle is plugged in so you know when charging is complete.
The vehicle was built with aerodynamics in mind, which allow the vehicle to glide along the road with minimal resistance. The bottom of the front grille is equipped with active shutters that open and close depending on speed. The underbody panels and hidden door handles also help to cut down on turbulence.
The interior is stylishly designed with chrome, leather, wood, and microfiber suede accents. Most of which, come standard on the base model. The model that was displayed at the New York International Auto Show featured 2 seats in the front and 2 seats in the rear.
The vehicle also comes with Cadillac’s signature touch sensitive CUE infotainment system. 20” wheels and sweeping body lines make the outside of the ELR look sleek, stylish, and one to remember. Pricing hasn’t been announced yet on this exciting new Cadillac model, but we will be sure to update you as soon as more information becomes available. Expect to see this vehicle on showfloors later in the year.
