Morrie’s Automotive Group Partners with the Herb Brooks Foundation

The Morrie’s Automotive Group is continuing to develop our Buy Happy Giving program which was established in 2011. For the 2012-2013 year Morrie’s has partnered with the Herb Brook’s Foundation to help promote and advocate for a positive hockey experience among youth members. We have a variety of different volunteer opportunities that we are looking forward to engaging in with the foundation this year and are happy to be working with such a great community organization.

On Friday June 15th the Herb Brooks Foundation held their annual golf tournament at the Victory Links Golf Course in Blaine, MN. The weather cooperated beautifully for the event and we were happy to be able to take part in the tournament. This year four of our employee’s participated in the tournament from which all proceeds benefited the Herb Brooks foundation and its programs.

There were many wonderful people that took part in this event including star hockey players, Miracle On Ice team members, former Olympians and a number of local community members. It was great to see so many people in attendance to honor this charitable organization.

We were happy to be a proud sponsor of the Herb Brook’s Golf Classic. In addition to displaying the 2013 Nissan GT-R and a Subaru Forester on the course during the tournament, we also raffled off a weekend in a Maserati. Winner, Danny Hendrickson was lucky enough to take home the Maserati for the weekend courtesy of our Twin Cities Luxury Auto store.

The mission of the Herb Brook’s foundation is to help grow the base of Ice hockey by creating programs that bring out leadership skills and physical, emotional and character development among young players. The foundation aims to give kids a positive hockey experience and help them to learn important life lessons. Memorializing Herb Brook’s legacy and the 1980 Miracle on Ice team is an important part of this foundation. In the words of the late Herb Brooks, his aim was to make hockey fun for kids and let them love the game the way he did.

The Herb Brooks foundation has many programs that are beneficial and helpful to young hockey players among the metro area. The Rink Rat program, which started in 2009, works with Minneapolis Public School’s and the Minneapolis Police Activities League to provide inner city children the opportunity to play hockey at no cost. The program has given over 700 children the chance to learn the game of hockey in a positive environment. Other programs that the foundation is involved in include, street hockey at local elementary schools, no-cost hockey camps, and developmental hockey leagues. Many of these programs take place at the state of the art Herb Brooks Training Center, which is located in Blaine.

We thoroughly enjoyed being involved with this event and look forward our ongoing partnership with The Herb Brooks Foundation.
