2016 New York International Auto Show – Day 1

We’re in New York this week covering the 2016 New York International Auto Show during the press preview. In addition to creating a ton of fresh video content from the showfloor, we made sure to snap a ton of photos of our favorite new (and some old) cars that we found at the show. Now, we love the big international auto shows as much as anybody but we’re going to walk you through some of the highlights so keep reading!

First up, Mazda excited us with the MX-5 RF, a retractible hardtop model that carries more of a targa look when the top is stowed. It’s a great new look for our favorite convertible and we think Mazda really outdid themselves this time. How could you not love that shape?!?

Nissan also rolled out another updated version of the GT-R. With more power, more comfort, and more luxurious materials throughout, the GT-R continues to justify its existence for another year while we wait with bated breath for a completely new version that is rumored to come out next year as a 2018 model. Still, it’s hard to fault Nissan for building a bright orange, 580 hp rocketship, but the real stars of the Nissan booth were all the vintage GT-Rs they brought out for the show, dating back to 1969!

Lincoln surprised everyone at the show, not just with the Navigator concept vehicle but also by trotting out the Lincoln Lawyer himself, Mr. Matthew McConaughey to debut it to everyone at the show. It’s one sharp looking truck and given how similar the Continental looks to the concept version, we can only hope the Navigator stays relatively true to this concept as well. It’s doubtful that the huge side-panel door and fold-out steps will ever see the light of day in production form though.

We were also treated to see the new 2017 Subaru Impreza in sedan and a 5-door hatchback. The sedan looked sharp in the new Sport trim that featured some sharp-looking wheels and sporty cloth seats while the hatchback was more luxury-oriented with soft leather trim throughout.

Hyundai surprised us all with a brand new trio of hybrid and electric vehicles called IONIQ. The small sedans come in full-electric, hybrid, and plug-in hybrid variants.

Lastly, we were treated to seeing the new Maserati Levante in person. The new luxury sport crossover both looks and sounds great, and the 420 hp V8 under the hood should make it scoot pretty well too! We’ll be looking forward to taking a closer look later this summer when they go on sale.

Check back tomorrow for highlights from Day 2 at the 2016 New York International Auto Show! And while you’re at it, feel free to peruse our gallery of other auto show highlights from Day 1 at NYIAS.
