On a “Chilly” Saturday morning, we drove a CX-5 packed full of Mario Kart cutouts onto a frozen lake for the Chilly Open.
The Chilly Open is a half golf, half hockey, and all drinking event that happens every February in Wayzata. Golfers bring their own version of a golf club which can be anything from a hockey stick, to a lacrosse stick, to a Swiffer with the bottom taped down. We sponsored a golf course and were able to design our own Mario Kart themed hole. We had about 1,000 people come out to play our course over the course of the day. When people headed up to our tent to grab a stylish pair of Morrie’s sunglasses, they shared their positive buying experiences at Morrie’s. We never get tired of hearing these awesome stories!
As long as there’s still ice next year, we’ll be out showing off our latest theme, so keep your eyes peeled in 11 months for the next round!
Tis the season to be thankful for those things you already have in your life, right before running to the store to get $100 off that flatscreen TV. While many members of our family will share that they’re thankful for “grandma’s delicious green bean casserole”, we’re the kind of people who say, “I’m thankful for my heated 2 car garage and the beauties that occupy the space.” With that, we thought we would share the cars we’re most thankful exist in this world.
Fall Color Tour
The best part of fall is the beautiful colors as the leaves change. Our favorite way to see these changes is by going for a cruise in a convertible. Get one last rental in before the end of the MHCC season and go for a drive through Minnesota. Check out the DNR’s fall color finder to discover the best time and place to view gorgeous fall foliage!
If you need a route to take your freshly rented MHCC convertible, check out this list of roads that are “pure bliss in the fall” or these so called “rainbow routes“. Although it’s still early in the season for southern Minnesota, the northern parts of the state are nearly at 100% color change! Get out and see the best fall has to offer, and don’t forget the pumpkin spice!
Fall is finally here, and with it come a whole slew of new events. Minnesota is home to multitudes of pumpkin patches, apple orchards, haunted houses and more. Check out our list below for places to take advantage of these seasonal activities! More >
I’m fairly certain that Morrie’s has written a few blogs about Road America and the surround area and rightfully so. Road America and the surrounding area are filled with motorsports history dating back to the first road race held on the village streets and surrounding roads in 1950. The on track action is golden; just search YouTube for “Road America Finish” and you’ll see what I mean. Recently the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar series showed up along with the Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge, Porsche GT3 Cup series and the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Series. Often called “America’s National Park of Speed”, Road America provides of the most scenic views of any racetrack.
It’s that time of year again, folks.
The holiday season is upon us once again, and that means gifts. Fresh out of ideas? Worry not – we’ve got you covered.

The Great Sleeping Bear
Who among us hasn’t wished we could hibernate through the winter winter months, waking up as the last of the salt is cleared off the roads? With this hand-made bear sleeping bag by Dutch Artist Eiko Ishizawa, the idea seems a little less far-fetched! These individually numbered sleeping bags cost a mere $2,350 – a small price to pay for supreme comfort when the weather gets to be simply unBEARable (Yes, that pun happened. We regret nothing).
Happy Holidays, everyone!
Being environmentally conscious is not as easy as we all think. We have been told for years that relying on oil to power our cars is bad for the environment, but that is not necessarily true. A recent study by University of Minnesota professors shows that the environmental impact of all electric cars is not what it we think it is. Sure, electric cars have no emissions from their non existent tail pipes, but the power plants that supply that electricity to energize them sure do and it is far more harmful than you might think. A recent Minneapolis Star Tribune article talks about how coal power is still a common source of electricity that supplies the chargers used by electric cars in the United States and many countries worldwide. An electric car that is charged from coal power plants will cause four times more deaths from soot and smog than a gasoline powered vehicle. Although when you find a cleaner power grid such as natural gas, water, wind or solar to charge an electric car, the environmental impact does skew in the electric car’s favor. The key here is to find out where your electricity comes from. In Minnesota and the surrounding states, coal is the primary source used to generate power.
Some of the alternatives to gas or electric vehicles might not be friendly either. People often think ethanol is friendly for the environment since it is made of corn. It can actually be worse than gas or electric generated from coal when you take to account that is has to be farmed, refined and the tail pipe emissions are also not as good as gas or diesel. When shopping for a vehicle that is environmentally friendly find the most fuel efficient vehicle that is powered by gasoline or diesel. If you really want that electric car do some research on how your power is produced.
Watch this video for some more info on the subject.
Ford has been subtly hinting that the Focus RS is coming and on February 3rd we finally get to see what they have in store for us. Historically the Focus RS was only available in Europe and this newest platform will be available globally. We have been getting small amounts of info here and there about the probable 2.3l EcoBoost engine from the Mustang which should make between 325-350 hp. Hopefully the rumblings about the torque vectoring all-wheel drive are also true to help put all that power to the ground. The styling should be more aggressive with added aero features and bigger wheels to make room for the larger brakes to tame all that power. If they these features make it to production this RS should make the competition pretty nervous.
Based on the teaser video below we are marking our calendar!
